Gaudi - a genius architect

His creations seem to be very fairy tale like. To me they are so fascinating that I can hardly find words to describe how I feel about them.

This is Gaudi, a Spanish Catalan architect whose highly distinctive style that was inspired by his love of nature thus many of his creations are very organic in form. He was influenced by Oriental and neo-Gothic movements as well as by Gothic Revival and then moved on to Modernism. Truly, his style is one of a kind and to classify Gaudi as a modernist would be an understatement.

What makes me so excited about his works is the ingenious creativity and talent that took so many forms and colors. His masterpieces are emanating the inner light, some sort of a connectedness to the source. The lines flow, seem organic, colors are infused with light, transcendental. His works are a true reflection of beauty on this Earth.

How to make your boring room look new and fresh

Ever thinking how to make that old tired room look new and inviting? Don't have money to splurge on a new set of furniture or trendy accessories? No problem. Try this...


1. Move your existing furniture around, try to go for a new and unexpected arrangement.
2. Create a feeling of having something new by borrowing an accessory from another room and using it in a new way. My favorite way of sprucing up a room is taking an unused window curtain to drape it over an old chair or couch.
3. Rearrange your books on your bookcase, just make them appear different by putting them on their sides or add a knick-knacks in between them.
4. As a table runner use your scarf or shawl that you don't care to use anymore. On it, place a large decorative bowl of fruit.
5. Another example of being creative is to wrap a scarf around your old lamp shade.

Not so green House Crashers

As I mentioned earlier, I am an avid enthusiast of HGTV shows. However, last week I was able to see the "Crashers" and I decided to give you a few thoughts of my own on this show. According to the HGTV website:

"...Host and contractor Josh Temple stalks a big-box home improvement store looking for unsuspecting weekend warriors, then follows them home with a large crew of experts in tow. Watch as stunned homeowners who journeyed into the store to fix a simple leaky faucet end up winning the remodeling lottery with dramatic, eye-popping room transformations." 

All would be fine if not the fact that his crew demolished and trashed perfectly functional and still good looking kitchen cabinetry, sinks, faucets, appliances, floors just because they were making way for the new ones. They actually enjoyed wild demolition and never had a second thought about recycling, reusing the materials they didn't need in a new design. It was truly upsetting to see things that could find a new home, be recycled or donated being destroyed and trashed away. I am sure I am not the only one feeling that way, we can't be so egocentric to actually believe we can get away in today's world with such acts of extravagant wastefulness.

Open house

When you are a fan of HGTV like me and watch "House Hunters" you might want to imagine that being a Realtor is a "piece of cake" job, where you can parade in your high heels and wear perfect outfits. Well, don't get me wrong, there are moments when it isn't.
I was going today to have an open house and it had been arranged where I would find the keys. Unfortunately, they weren't where they were supposed to be. I was, instead, trying to climb a 6 foot fence and unlock a gate but, alas, I was really not able to get my arm around it to reach the lock from the inside. I went back to my car and the only thing that I could use to elevate myself was my daughter's booster seat. I brought it with me, positioned it sideways and was able to open the lock. Hooray! Sweaty and flushed I smiled my polite smile when my first visitor arrived.
